Discipleship Training
As Chi Alpha, we reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through Spirit-Filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship and mission to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world. Through Discipleship Training, we want to empower students to be multigenerational disciple makers - people who make disciples of Jesus who then will go on to make disciples of Jesus themselves. We are committed to reaching our campus, our jobs, and the entire world with the Good News of Jesus' Gospel. Will you join us and be trained in how to be a disciple who makes disciples?
Session 1

What is Discipleship?
Discipleship was Jesus' method of sharing about the Kingdom of God while he walked Earth, and before his ascension, he entrusted the same responsibility to his followers in The Great Commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." To be a disciple of Jesus is to make disciples of Jesus.
Session 2

Abide. Apostle. Abandon.
In order to follow Jesus in making disciples that make disciples, we must abide, we must apostle, and we must abandon. What a privilege it is to participate in Jesus' suffering.
Session 3

The Bible
How incredible is it that God has given us His word and provides everything we need to live life in Godliness! Valuing and obeying Scripture in our lives equips us at servants of God for every good work placed before us.
Session 4

The Gospel
The Gospel literally means "Good News", and as humans, we're wired to want to share good news! It's important that we're able to share this life-changing message well as we walk through life.
Session 5

How Lives Actually Change
It is the Holy Spirit's work to sanctify our lives as we continually surrender to the Lordship of Jesus. As disciples of Jesus, we have both the responsibility to allow this work to happen in ourselves, and the opportunity to support this work in the lives of those we disciple and our community.
Session 6

Commitment to the Mission
Discipleship was Jesus' method of sharing about the Kingdom of God while he walked Earth, and before his ascension, he entrusted the same responsibility to his followers in The Great Commission: "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." To be a disciple of Jesus is to make disciples of Jesus.
It's no accident you're an Alabama student. We've already learned that we're all called to make disciples everywhere that we go, but how can we be committed to doing that right here on campus? If we will commit ourselves to going, to praying, to giving, and to welcoming, we can see Alabama transformed for the Kingdom of God!
Session 7

Spirit Empowerment
In order to follow Jesus in making disciples that make disciples, we must abide, we must apostle, and we must abandon. What a privilege it is to participate in Jesus' suffering.
The Holy Spirit is the 3rd person of the Trinity, and has been called "The Crescendo of the Cross". Before Jesus ascended back to the righthand of the Father, He told His followers that another like Him was coming, and when He did, they would receive power to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the Earth. We can't make disciples of the way of Jesus without the Holy Spirit's sanctification, guidance, and empowerment!
Session 8

Ordinances of the Church
The acts of Baptism and regular participation in the Lord's Supper are core tenants of the Christian faith. Baptism signifies inclusion into the Body of Christ, and Communion (or the Lord's Supper) is the continued participation in the Body of Christ. They each have rich history and meaning that we get to celebrate together as a body!
Session 9

Humility
Scripture says that "God opposes the proud, but shows favor to the humble." What does it look like to walk in humility as Christ did, and to lead others to do the same? We must know and practice this if we are to make disciples of Jesus who make disciples of Jesus!
Session 10

Confession
1 John 1 says, "5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." Confession is a core practice of the Christian faith, and its importance is amplified as we take on the responsibility of leading others to do the same in Christ.
Session 11

Leadership Rights
Our culture and society says we have certain rights, even unalienable ones. What rights does scripture say a Christian has? And what rights does a Christian in a position of leadership have?
